A DIFFERENT NOVELIST (short notes after a sudden acquaintance)

By: Zoica Gjolla Popi, renowned writer in Great Britain

Assistent: Tanush Çaushi

Introduction

In the absence of a genuine body of critics of literary works in Albania, we have established a group of critics composed of the renowned author, residing in the UK, Mrs. Zoica Gjolla Popi and other journalists from mirëmëngjes.net portal. We decided to analyze the novels of Pajtim Çaushi, a writer from Çamëria. After several months studying and reviewing the literary works produced by this author, we are presenting an abstract prepared by Zoica Gjolla Popi with the assistance of mirëmëngjes.net portal. Hopefully this will be a good start

About the author

Pajtim Çaushi, is a writer from Konispol, the most southern town in Albania, which is embroidered by the Ionian Sea and Butrint Lake, mountains and hills, rivers and streams, olives, oranges and tangerines...

He is unnoticed and unknown to the "elite" of coffee shops and TV programs, and the "literary masters" who label themselves as “leaders” of trends and currents. However, this writer from the far corner of the country is the author of eight novels, five poetry books and four brilliant short stories. About the novels, we notice that we are dealing with some literary works, which are unlike the cookie cutter type we encounter so often and each one so different from the other with regard to the subjects, and as a way of conceiving and writing. Below there are some abstracts from the novels published by this author.

THE VASSAL OF ANGELS

This is the first novel written by the author and it is an interesting work from the narrative point of view and the message conveyed. The script floats freely within the streams of surrealism. In a night’s dream the character travels through the paths of heaven to knock on the door of God’s abode Here she tries to get His support in addressing injustices in ethnic division.

During her journey to the heavens, Mother Fetja encounters the souls of many people both known and unknown and the souls of former leaders of states and superpowers, and all kinds of fugitives awaiting the Final Judgment.

The meeting and dialogue of Mother Feta with God in His seat was skillfully given...

The historical context of the novel are the events of the year 1999 in Kosovo and the long-standing dream of uniting parts of the Albanian lands annexed by the neighbors in the year 1912 with the blessing of the great European powers.

THE SILENCE OF THE EGO

The story unfolds within the dark grooves of unconsciousness and existentialism during the collective dangerous madness of the ill-famed year 1997.

The events and characters intertwine and coexist in the vortices of the absurdity of reality and the absurdity of the unconscious. Ron the man and Shtile the jinn, are the real and the unreal entities walking through the country, the peninsula and the continent like in the ballad of Constantine and Doruntina.

Evil and ugliness have covered the earth and sky, while the pure and the majestic are hidden and huddled in the deepest recesses of the self-existence.

The novel let us know that when gunshots drown the sounds of life, existence is a pale dreadful place.

THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE CLOUDS

A novel in two volumes that resembles a major poem about the history of the country at the beginning of the third millennium. The author focuses on the highest spheres of society from where he conveys the all-time message about the nature of power.

The novel makes us experience a reality where:

He who establishes justice is the first to break the law and conceive of injustice.

He who has the role of the Leader, behaves with the arrogance of the oppressor.

He who has to protect us mocks and threatens our lives.

He who is supposed to lift us up spiritually destroys that little hope we have left.

He who should inspire us to smile, scares and traps us in the abyss of poverty ...

In the novel we have several combinations of ways of writing, literary concepts, lines and environments, aesthetic features and characters. At the heart of the narrative is the absurdity of the Bachelor’s tax turned into a satirical tool of grotesque proportions.

Pajtim Çaushi

DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER (power creeper)

A satirical novel that describes the metamorphosis of the individual that is so greedy for money and power to the extent that relinquishes ethical norms and decency, and disregards life itself.

Pelivan Përkeqi, the unscrupulous protagonist does not leave a trail unused to reach at the peak of power.

The numerous tragicomic scenes full of humor and satire, are a reflection and a realistic picture of the environments where the highest leaders of Albania operate.

THE MONUMENT OF SHADOWS

This novel descends lower down the ladder of the power hierarchy. In the author's creative focus are the town mayor Ardi Pani, the deputy Dorian Olli, the councilor Eva Banushi, the chief police Major Mani and other representatives of the local government hierarchy.

Their objectives are clearly and shamelessly defined: power at all costs and with every means, with a vampire’s thirst and hunger, and gluttonous sexual desire to the point of animal behavior.

As a way of storytelling, the author has chosen the satire, which is beautifully constructed in the background of paradox and grotesque actions.

THE WINGS OF AJRA AJTOJ

In contrast to other novels here the main character is a graduating university girl who experiences the poison and the honey that the life offers her during the year of school and the immediately after graduation. She gets to experience love, hate, lies, deception, friendship, support, disappointments, and the pact with evil ...

A realistic, romantic, but also modern character.

There are different ways of narration in this novel; first person, diary, second person, messages, notes, minutes of meeting, third person, sms, poetry ...

THE FAIRY OF BLUE-EYE SPRING

An interesting novel for school teenagers and their teachers.

The school environment and the waters of the Blue-Eye Spring become the scenes where students Sander, Ina, Rena, Klea, Helion, Nikita, Maria, Denada, as well as their teachers Eni, Nora, Era, Amada and others mingle together.

Even in this novel the scenes of real life are intertwined with the surreal situations. The legend of Blue-Eye Spring is demystified by coming to the students as part of life and part of ballad. Coexistence between them gives the subject the feeling of rocking in the same cradle, the cradle of life and eternity.

THE SHADOW OF ONESELF

Those who have read it, testify that it is a novel very different from the earlier ones. Conceived on the basis of fifty-five narrative stories, the novel becomes interesting and flows quickly.

Dea Dalani, a 14-year-old girl intubated as a result of Covid-19 virus, is in a state of severe hallucinations after recovering somewhat from the disease, and recalls the most obsessive moments of her life.

Her stories about her great grandmother, grandmother, Vito, Fan, the little scissor and about school fill all the narrative stories of the novel

The novel is developed in the first person, which gives more power and closeness to the communication, while the other forms of writing make it very attractive for the reader ...

In addition to these novels, the author Pajtim Çaushi has published four short stories, five poetry books and a volume of essays.

And yet, he is not noticed by the media, not identified by the "elites", not analyzed by critics and literary experts (if they exist).

If you ask him about this paradoxical phenomenon, he replies thoughtfully, but also with a clearly distinguishable sadness:

- Eh, this is how we have operated for centuries, we etch the values in the sand and engrave the anti-values in stones! ...
